Description
Fontinalis, commonly known as water moss, is a species of submerged aquatic moss belonging to the subclass Bryidae. This plant is commonly found in freshwater environments across Europe, Asia, Greenland, and Africa. It typically thrives attached to submerged rocks in fast-flowing water, and it can also be found on the surface of lakes. Water moss tends to flourish in shady positions and prefers acidic water, with a pH of around 8.4 being the maximum tolerated level.
